Rapid Rewards Partners for Rental Cars

Southwest Airlines’ Rapid Rewards program has partnered with several rental car companies allowing you to earn Rapid Rewards points even when not flying.

You can earn 600 Rapid Rewards Points per rental (not per rental day) with many rental car partners.  600 points is worth $10 toward a Wanna Get Away fare.  Points are earned per rental and not per day.

All the Rapid Rewards Rental Car Partners charge a fee for electing to receive Rapid Rewards points.  In some cases, these fees can more than offset the potential value of your 600 Rapid Rewards points.

If your rental is expensive or will last several days, you may be better off earning points with the rental car’s loyalty program (you can’t earn rewards in both program at the same time).  For example, with Hertz’s Gold Plus Rewards program, basic members (#1 Club) earn 1 point per dollar spent.  If you rent a car for 6 days at $50/day, you would earn 300 Hertz Gold Plus points rather than 600 Rapid Rewards points.  While your 600 Rapid Rewards points are worth about $10, your 300 Gold Plus points are worth more.  Free rentals with Hertz can be redeemed for as few as 600 points, meaning your 300 Gold Plus points will take you half way ($25) to a free daily rental costing $50.
